Natale
Andreoni was
born in Lucca, Italy on Dec. 25, 1871. I have the
sparest of details about his life in Italy. His death certificate lists
his parents as Ageela
Andreoni and Magdaline
Brogi.
Natale left Lucca, in the Tuscan province of Italy, to seek a new life in America in 1895, according to the 1900 U.S. Census. He sailed from the port of La Havre, France. There are conflicting family stories whether Natale was followed to America by brothers – possibly including a Luigi – and sisters. Once in the United States, Natale lived with the Cardosi family in Lima, Ohio (Allen County) for about seven years. The Cardosi family had another recent immigrant living with them at the same time. The woman, Eletta Arrighetti, was born in Barga, Italy, just a few miles from Natale’s hometown of Lucca. Supposedly, the two did not know each other until they met in America. Natale, called Charlie in America, and Eletta Arrighetti were married June 7, 1905 in Delaware County, Indiana. The couple settled in St. Marys, Ohio (Auglaize County) where they opened a small fruit and candy store on Spring Street. Natale died from liver disease on Feb. 5, 1935 in St. Marys, Ohio.
