Arrighetti Family Eletta Arrighetti was born in Barga, Italy (near Lucca in Tuscan region) on November 10, 1881. Tracing Eletta’s family is more difficult than tracing most of my other great grandparents because of the various spellings of her last name. Her parents are Attilio Arrighetti and Letizia Brogi. Eletta’s parents apparently remained in Italy. She returned in the 1920s to visit her parents. Some of her brothers and sisters, however, followed her to America. Other siblings remained in Italy.

Eletta (last name spelled Arighetti) entered the United States on April 19, 1900 through the famed Ellis Island. Eletta came to America aboard the Kaiser Wilhelm II, which left Genoa, Liguria, Italy bound for New York. Eletta quickly made her way to Lima, Ohio (Allen County) where she was listed working in a Cardosi household in the 1900 census. That’s where she met Natale Andreoni, her future husband. The couple wed June 5, 1905 in Delaware County, Indiana.

Several of Eletta’s siblings followed her to the shores of America. Her sister, Iole Arrighetti, arrived in 1922 at the age of 22. Iole settled in Chicago. Guilia Arrighetti arrived in 1913 aboard the Caledonia and settled in Celina, Ohio. Guilia lived in Alva, Scotland and sailed from Glasgow when she immigrated to America.

Pete Arrighetti moved from Italy and eventually lived in the Bronx. Pete fought in World War I, and he was a bus driver when he returned. John Arrighetti lived in San Francisco and apparently was in the merchant marines for years. Eletta Arrighetti also supposedly had a sister who lived in Boston.

According to family stories, Eletta had at least two brothers who remained in Italy. One brother, Mario, was supposedly gassed while in the Italian army during World War I.

Letizia BrogiEletta’s grandparents (Attileo Arrighetti’s parents) died of cholera, and he was raised by an optometrist in Florence, according to family stories. Eletta’s mother, Letizia Brogi, had a bother and father killed in a munitions factory explosion. Letizia apparently had at least one other sister – and possibly another brother.

Eletta died on March 22, 1972 in St. Marys, Ohio (Auglaize County) of heart disease.
